Sykia, Sithonia
Sykia (Sikia) is a picturesque traditional Greek village which is located which is located on the mountainous slopes of Sithonia at a distance 155 km from Thessaloniki. Sykia is an ancient village with many old houses and the church which is named of Saint Athanasios, which was founded by sailors and pirates. That’s why even till our time the character of people who live there is unconventional and many times noisy and wild. This is one of the largest villages in Sithonia with population of 2500 people who live there all year round. But now Sykia area is visited mainly because of its great beaches and picturesque landscapes.
Sykia’s popular beaches are located 3 km from Sykia village and spread for a long distance. This area is quite and calm part of Sithonia where one can find private gulfs with no crowds even in the high season. There are beach bars with sun beds, umbrellas and taverns along the seaside, where one can try traditional Greek dishes from fresh sea food. “5 steps to the sand” is one of the favorite by Greeks tavern.
The most famous beaches of Sykia are Linaraki, Pigathaki, Krioritsi.
Sykia beaches have peaceful gulfs which are surrounded by mountains or pine forests. Crystal clear water of turquoise color, golden sand, long entrance to the sea: thanks to all these Sykia beaches are ideal for family holidays. There is a great view towards mountain Athos from Sykia beaches. There are no large hotels in Sykia but a few campsites and apartments for rent.
